DeskScapes

With Stardock’s DeskScapes application installed on your PC, you can edit the image used for the desktop wallpaper by applying effects and changing its color. Also by using the Stardock-developed DeskScapes application, you can choose to have an animation as your wallpaper. Several animated wallpapers are already included in the application, more are available for download online. Last but not least, you can set a video, a WMV file for example, as your desktop wallpaper.

To run DeskScapes on your PC, it must meet the following system requirements: monitor capable of 768x350 resolution, 128MB of graphics memory, Pixel Shader 2.0 and 32-bit color, DirectX 9, 32 or 64-bit edition of Windows 7. If you have a modern PC, you don’t need to bother checking the system settings; a modern PC will easily meet DeskScapes’ system requirements.

The largest pane on the application’s interface displays the image, animation, or video you could use as your desktop’s wallpaper. The pane underneath presents a collection of animations and images you could use as the wallpaper; by default, the media from the default dreams folder and the default OS wallpapers are displayed here. At the top of the application’s interface there are buttons for accessing the settings menu, the background options menu, for downloading new backgrounds, and for applying a selected background.

If you want to stick with a static image as your desktop background, then you need to know that you can use DeskScapes to edit that image. You could change the image’s color or you could apply one of the many effects DeskScapes puts at your disposal.

If you don’t want to stick with a static image as your desktop background, you can use one of your own videos (WMV and MPEG are supported), you can choose one of the built in animated backgrounds, or you could download more backgrounds from the web. The option to apply effects is also available for video and animated backgrounds.
